Why do I enjoy the occasional bag of Funyuns? The answer is, not surprisingly, multifaceted.

Right up front, it's the delightful flavor of these Onion Flavored Rings. They're a taste treat and afternoon snack (or in my case, first meal on some days). But they're also a technical marvel to behold intellectually. Some crafty food scientist made a leap of ingenuity and discovered that a mere kiss of onion flavoring can turn delicious an inedible mass of extruded and flash-fried Styrofoam.

Of course, when I eat Funyuns, I'm building coworker cred. Among my slurping Mountain Dew through a Twizzlers, Starburst pounding coworkers, I'm definitely blending. One look at me slamming Funyuns and you might just forget how I'm on the down slope of my 30s, single, vegetarian, Buddhist, and hence, maybe slightly less of the pathetic anachronism I'm otherwise perceived to be.
