I think I'm speaking for most Chihuahua owners when I say we don't think of our dogs as small. Milo is just a dog. When I get harassed at work (Hi Jacob!) for having a "sissy dog", and I reply, "get a spoon, and commence eating from my ass", it's because Chihuahuas really are 100% dog, in every sense of the word, only smaller. You very quickly lose awareness of their size and they become, as I said, just dogs.
It's only when you step back, literally, and see your dog from a distance that you get a sense of their scale.
For example, Milo has almost mastered the trick of "log rolling" on my son. That is, Preston can lie on the floor on his back, with Milo on his stomach, and when he rolls over, Milo can walk around to his back. Imagine a lumberjack, on a log, on a river, and... well you get it.
When he did this tonight, it struck me, "Damn I have a small dog!" But to Jacob I still say the spoon/ass offer stands... in fact, pull up a chair. While it won't taste like pumpkin pie, you'll just have to deal with it, because Milo is an awesome dog, and neither he nor I are sissies.
