A Dearth of Photographs

The problem with being obsessive compulsive is that my behavior is rarely affected by logic. Take, for example, my preference for shooting the people of San Francisco in early morning light. Friday night I'll check the weather and the precise time of sunrise. Then, Saturday morning, I time myself to arrive around ten minutes of the literal rising of the sun. If you can do this on a clear day, you won't be disappointed.

Two hours after sunrise and the light is usually too flat, unflattering, and too intense for my eyes and I pack things in and go home.

The problem is that in the summer months the sun rises before any meaningful numbers of people are on the streets. So the net of it all is that I drag my tired ass out of bed at 3am, arrive by about 5:40, and stand there looking around at the empty streets thinking, "Okay, I'm here! Come on people, come do interesting things! Can't you understand the pressures of publishing around twelve images a week to a popular weblog?"

San Francisco is very selfish that way.
