Many years ago, while visiting my sister in Toronto, I stopped a lady on the street to ask directions. I told her I was lost and could she please point me in the direction of...
She wagged her finger in front of my face to silence me and said, "I am a America person. I am not from Canada. I cannot help you."
Not, "I'm an American" or "I'm from America." It was "a America person".
So, being Canadian, I apologized for the whole situation, and she proceeded to ask me directions, even though I'd already explained I was lost.
How strange.
