Holding an impossibly small book that I took to be a bible cupped between his two hands, a man leaned against the corner of a building at a busy intersection not far from Union Square. He read from it in a loud, nasal voice.
"And Jesus went into Galilee and there he gave his money to the beggars, for he was a good and kind man," the man said.
Our light was still red.
"For Jesus was so good, and such a kind man that he took pity upon the homeless, the indigent, and he gave his money to them."
Still red.
"And Jesus said, 'Give your money to the poor if you should want, you know, to get into Heaven.' This, said Jesus, to the people around him. And he saw that it was good, and he rested."
