Favorite Photographs: July 2003
Thu Jul 31 2003

It's all but impossible to explain to coworkers why I do what I do on the weekends. One guy, Jacob, who's interested in photography, seems to get it, as do others of course, but we had a cool chat in the lunch room once when I explained that I'm fascinated by this idea that I'm documenting what might otherwise go overlooked.

I think a lot of us feel this way. We tell ourselves it's courageous or even heroic to be documentary photographers, or street photographers. Maybe it is. My gut tells me it's all just instinctive. I've been drawn to this kind of imagery even before I had an inkling to photograph it.

I make no excuses. I don't justify my long drives at three in the morning to the city. It's just what I do, and yes, I know, I am bizarre. I'm fine with this. Really.
