Favorite Photographs: December 2002

I took my street series into darker places in December, and now that I'm there, I only want to go deeper. I want to rub away the flesh and get into the nervous system of the city.

When I review December's images, it's a piecemeal collection, but I don't mind its patchiness so much because within it are a few images I know to be of good quality and subject matter. This is the month when I broke through important barriers in what I was willing to subject myself to in the process of pursuing my subjects, and what I was willing to show you.

It was hard to avoid images with a seasonal theme, and very few of those I published seem to express what I really wanted to say about Christmas. Next year, perhaps, I'll have a clearer voice in this area.
